Someone once asked me why I chose to photograph mermaids. I promptly responded, why not? But the reality is this; I am still a child at heart. I love all things fantastical. Ask anyone in my family and they will tell you that I love cryptozoology. From bigfoot, to fairies, and yes, even mermaids. I find them fascinating to learn and read about them.
Throughout history stories have been told of all sorts of creatures that while fictional, displayed an incredible sense of creativity and imagination. These fabricated creatures have been the subjects of art that were passed down from generation to generation. From literature to paintings, the characters of myth have withstood the test of time through the preserving power of art.
In today’s world everything is go-go-go, accomplish this task or that task. When do we take the time and just relax and pretend? To allow our imagination to run wild, to daydream? To just step back for a moment and be young at heart again? Why not take this journey with me? Whether you one to pretend for one day that you are a mermaid or in a field with a unicorn, or maybe you sit down and lose yourself in a really good book. Whatever it is, sit back, relax, and let your mind be free to just imagine.
