What Is a Composite?
In the photography world, composite portraiture has been around since the 1880’s, but what exactly does it mean? To a photographer it means involving two or more distinct images to create a novel composition.
Why do these images come with a higher price tag now that you know their significance?
Let us look at the pictures above: I took a picture of a client’s beautiful puppy running in the yard and placed her in a more aesthetically appealing background (background photo purchased from (Meg Bitton Productions).
As you can see, I captured the picture of the adorable pup in a backyard on a cloudy day with distractions in the background. The picture I purchased was taken in a field at sunset with beautiful trees in the background. The two obviously do not match and required a good amount of time to make the two of them a cohesive image.
The process requires choosing two or more photos that look like they would work together, blend them together by adjusting the lighting and colors, then refining the final piece to give it a natural result. It takes time, consideration, a fine eye for detail, and sometimes a purchase from a digital artist.
Most of you know, I love mermaids. I often pretended to be one as a child and even now as an adult (I have mermaid tails to prove it). I am not sure about you, but unfortunately, I have not seen any real mermaids out in the wild. Being a photographer? I can create my own. Compositing allows me to take the best elements from different photos and blend them together to create something magical for you. I work one on one with each client to help them bring to life their dreams, whether they envision themselves as a mermaid, or a fairy, or maybe they just want to be placed in a dream location. Compositing allows me to create lasting memories that fulfill your dreams and evoke a sense of wonder and delight.
