In a world where our pets hold a cherished place in our hearts, I try to capture not only their personality, but the bond they have with their owner. I have had the privilege of capturing countless moments of joy and connection between humans and their furry or feathered friends. In this blog post, I want to offer a few tips to prepare you for your pet photo session and why having photos of your pets is so important.
In an era where everyone has a cellphone camera (see above photos) in their pocket, the question arises: do professional photo sessions still hold significance? As a photographer, I firmly believe they do, for several reasons.
First and foremost, quality over quantity. While cell phone cameras have improved tremendously, they still cannot match the precision and quality of a professional camera.
Second, I aim to help you bring your vision to life with a unique and creative perspective. My goal is to capture images that reflect you and your pet’s personality. Like their human counterpart, every pet has a unique story to tell. Whether it’s a joyous romp in a field or a tender moment with their owner, I try to capture these moments for you to hold on to and cherish forever as a reminder of the love between you and your furry friend.
Last, and certainly not least, I help capture memories of not just your pet, but the bond you and your pet share. We all know they are never in our lives long enough. I know firsthand how hard it is to lose a pet. Having a photo session with you and your pet will help create, not only a bond, but lasting memories for your wall or album.
Prepping for Your Pet Photo Sssion
Embarking on a pet photo session is not just about capturing beautiful images; it's also about creating a memorable experience between you and your pet. I want this to be a fun and exciting experience, so allow me to provide a few tips to help you with this journey.
*Schedule Wisely:
Schedule your session at a time when your pet is typically relaxed and well-rested. Avoid peak activity times or when they will be hungry or tired. A happy and content pet will be more cooperative and comfortable during the session.
*Grooming and Styling:
Before the session, give your pet a thorough grooming. This includes brushing their fur, trimming their nails, and cleaning their eyes and ears. If your pet is typically trimmed, then be sure to have the cut you prefer two days prior to your session. If you are planning to include props, toys, or accessories in the photos, make sure they are clean and ready to use.
*Practice Poses and Commands:
Take some time to practice basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, and come. This will help ensure that your pet is responsive during the photo session and can help capture a variety of poses and expressions. Bring along your pet’s favorites treats and toys as a reward for good behavior.
*Pack Essentials:
On the day of the photo session be sure to pack everything you will need for your pet, including water, food, treats, toys, accessories, and any necessary medication. Please notify me if your pet has any allergies or medical issues. It is also a good idea to bring along a leash and collar for safety, especially if the session is outdoors.
Please Note: I recommend some sessions be held at the pet’s home. This will be something you and I will discuss during our consultation. I also suggest allowing me to meet your pet or pets prior to the photo session so that your pet will not see me as a stranger.
Relax and Have Fun!:
Above all, remember to relax and have fun. Pets are incredibly perceptive and will pick up on your energy and emotions. Stay calm, patient, and positive, allow your pet's personality to shine! The best pet photos capture the unique spirit and essence of your furry friend, so embrace the moment and enjoy this experience together.
